In the latter part of 2009, the first Orcas Island Photo Contest was launched, by yours truly. The intent was to bring photographers together, share the fun and work of building a yearly Photo Contest. With over 50 photography enthusiasts and hundreds more undeclared enthusiasts it seemed this contest was something that would help bring together more photographers, more artists more teachers.
A book with over 100 pages of beautiful Orcas Island photos is currently being evaluated. Take a peek at the video to get an idea of the pre-judging curated book. A small number of images were not included because the uploaded files were too small. A minimum resolution and size was established to assure a printed book would represent the images properly.
The book is amazing. Beautiful, heartwarming, stunning images of life on and around Orcas Island. A beautiful compilation of images of a beautiful Island, that serves as an inspiration to me and all photographers lucky enough the be blessed with time on this Island.
A book is planned and as a result of judging by 3 Aspen Colorado professionals, notable National Geographic photographer David Hiser, the Director of Photography at a top school, Andrea Wallace and our Aspen long-time local, distinguished and well published photographer George Stranahan. These fine judges gratiously agreed to lend their critical eye to our effort. Orcas Island Photo Contest – Judging begins
Judging begins this week and the results of the 2010 Orcas Island Photo Contest will be published soon. The 2011 Orcas Island Photo Contest has not yet been announced. Books will be available for purchase via Blurb.
A beautiful set of images, in an archival quality book, made on Orcas Island, by Orcas Islanders for everyone to enjoy. Well done!
