Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival Outdoor Concert

The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival reports: “Two world premiere works by Composer-in-Residence Jake Heggie are eagerly awaited by commissioners and honorees. The Miró Quartet as a 2012 Chamber Music America Quartet-in-Residence (and winner of the Guarneri String Quartet Residency for their Orcas Island residency) will perform and offer master classes throughout the concert weeks. Star-stature mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade joins a roster of beloved and nationally known Festival alumni artists and new guests.

The Children’s Concert weaves musical storytelling magic, the Seniors’ Recital honors our elders, and on the Village Green stage Carnival of the Animals is narrated by poet/author Jack Prelutsky, piano by Jon Kimura Parker and Orli Shaham with the OICMF Orchestra’s spirited rendition of this classical favorite. For those wanting to delve into the context, history, and structure of the 2012 repertoire, Music Lovers Seminars await!

Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann and Artistic Advisor Jon Kimura Parker, Board, and Staff all look forward to welcoming you!”
