Richard Bach’s Condition Improving

Richard Bach, Orcas Island resident and author of the 1970s bestseller “Jonathan Livingston Seagull,” was injured when his small plane struck power lines during approach to landing on San Juan Island. He is reported to be improving and will be moved out of the intensive care unit at Harborview hospital. His condition is being upgraded to satisfactory from serious.

Sources close to Mr. Bach reported that he was recognizing visitors and able to interact with old friends.

Its unknown if Mr. Bach’s head injury will produce any long term problems for the author and pilot. Miraculously, his other injuries are minor.
